Reviews about Lake Erie Systems and Services Inc
- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆April 19, 2019, by Matthew ParkerI apologize for the length of this review in advance, but the reason I will never go back and will encourage others to avoid them is the result of a somewhat complicated issue. I used to have all of my computer servicing done here, and had nothing but great things to say about them. However, the last time I had my laptop in here it was for video card issues on an ASUS laptop. After being given the runaround for ~1 month during which they had my laptop in the shop, I had the machine returned to me with a vague "I/We think that it might have been damaged by overheating." Now, a friend of mine (an engineer) and I figured that this laptop was more or less a write off, and that we would open it up to see if there were any workaround that we could put together to get this laptop back up and running. Upon opening it we discovered rather conclusive proof that the laptop was NEVER opened. The video card could be viewed from both sides while mounted inside the laptop, but only removed if the built in fans behind the laptop hinge are opened up and the keyboard is lifted up. Upon opening the fans behind the hinge, we found a massive dust build up with great big poofy dust bunnies. At this point my friend and I discussed how the tech (Ernie) had clearly never opened this up because there is no way in hell you would leave that sort of mess in a computer you were servicing. Especially since I requested a cleaning while he was in there. Now, after cleaning that dusty mess out, we proceeded toward the video card. Upon viewing the card... it became clear that the tech's GUESS that the card was thermally damaged was absolutely correct. However, the fact that there was any doubt when he gave me updates (over the month they had the laptop), or when I finally picked it up, tells me that he NEVER saw the upper side of the video card. The elements of the card were warped and clearly heat damaged, but only visibly damaged from the top. That combined with the dusty fans and the vague report I was given while picking it up suggest that despite having the laptop for a month they never felt the need to actually do the work I contracted (and in fact, ended up paying for). I will never go back, and encourage anyone reading this to seriously consider other shops if you need computer work done. Centerpoint Computers out on Grandview got this mess cleaned up (the laptop in question is currently in use right now besides me) in under a week on the cheap. I'll be writing a glowing review for them after this.
